That was definitely a weekend to remember! A huge points haul for Chaz Mostert after clean sweeping both races, an impressive feat.
It was a strong start to the weekend for both the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 and the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 securing tickets to the Top 10 Shootout.
Ryan put everything on the line but had a wheel in the dirt on the final corner of the shootout which put him P9 for the race.
Chaz went out and left nothing on the table setting a strong lap but got pipped over the line by Will Davison who beat him by 0.0001, meaning Chaz would start on the front row.
It was a chaotic opening first few laps for Car 2 with Ryan in the midst of some of the best battles of the season, unfortunately getting caught with Reynolds and ran wide which put him down to P13 from P7.
Chaz had another mega start, on the rear bumper of Davison ahead and eager to get the pass done early, Chaz dove on turn six to take the lead of the race.
Both cars were on the two-stop strategy taking the undercut approach, pitting early for a small fuel load to cover tyres and come out in clean air.
It was eyes forward for the middle stint, smooth and consistency was key to conserve tyre degradation.
With five cars on the alternative strategy, the final stint would be a fine balance between pushing and looking after the tyres for Chaz who came out seven seconds behind the leader, Cam.
Having pit early and ultimately running out of tyre, Ryan struggled for car pace compared to the guys around him, crossing the line P16.
With 10 laps to go, Chaz had blitzed through the field and caught Cam for dive down the inside on turn one to take the lead and gapped the field to take the second win of the weekend.
This is the teams’ first clean sweep in a multi race weekend since 2010, an incredible result which pays off all of the hard work the guys and girls at WAU have put in this year.
Not only did the Supercars crew have great weekend, Matt Hillyer in the Morris No. 2 in the Toyota GR Cup also clean swept his weekend with three wins from three races, putting him second in the championship.
That is a wrap on the Sydney SuperNight, a weekend to remember and one for the books, next up is the Tasmanian SuperSprint.
Chaz Mostert
“It was an awesome weekend for the team, qualifying up the pointy and converting into race results, we worked hard this weekend and definitely deserve our chocolates.
“I have the best team behind me, the guys and girls at WAU were faultless this entire weekend, I am so proud to be a part of this team.
“Looking forward to going home and recharging the batteries before heading to Tassie, we’ll be on the SuperSoft Tyre which is our Achilles heel and will be the real test.”
Ryan Wood
“Mixed emotions this weekend, started off really strong topping Practice 1 which was cool but didn’t convert in the races.
“Made the shootout today which was awesome, getting boxed in that battle early on set us back, but it was a lot of fun rubbing doors with those guys.
“There are plenty of positives to take out of this weekend, overall it was a great weekend for the team and awesome for Chaz to take two wins, bring on Tassie!”
