Chaz Mostert podiums on Saturday whilst Nick Percat suffered opening lap damage in Race 20 of the 2023 Supercars Championship at The Bend SuperSprint.

Two quickfire practice sessions in the fresh Tailem Bend air started the weekend off, before the three-part qualifying session at lunchtime.

Chaz put the No.25 Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 in fifth after the three-stage qualifying, whilst Nick narrowly missed Q3 putting the Mobil 1 NTI Racing No. 2 11th on the grid.

As the sun set, the lights went out for the 20-lap Race 20, Chaz had a ripper start off the line making up four positions to P2 by the first corner.

It was an unlucky day for Nick, as he got caught in the opening lap carnage which took out four cars, suffering rear end damage. Making it a long 20 laps from there, bringing it home in P18.

A great 3.0 second stop from the crew put Chaz in a position to continue to battle for the win, securing his first trophy of the weekend.

Cars are back on track tomorrow for the final two 100km races for Round 8 of the 2023 Supercars Championship.

Chaz Mostert

“Awesome to be on the podium today, it’s a great reward for everyone in the team.

“The team showed great resilience today, we came out P16 in Practice 1 but the team kept chipping away at the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 to get us up the pointy end for quali.

“Today was a nice confidence building day for the team, which we will take into tomorrow ready to take on the final two races.”

Nick Percat

“Our race was pretty much over by the end of lap one after getting caught in the carnage, which is pretty disappointing considering where we started.

“Congratulations to Chaz and the team for another trophy this weekend!

“A bit of work for the team tonight before we go out again tomorrow, we had better qualifying pace today so we will be looking to repeat that tomorrow.”
