Bryce Fullwood has scored his maiden Supercars podium finish, with third place in Race 25 at The Bend. The rookie drove a superb race, one that will be reflected on for years to come.

After Chaz Mostert started from pole, thanks to a blistering lap in the shootout, he had to battle a tyre life issue, eventually finishing 11th.

Both cars made it into the shootout, with Bryce fifth quickest, and Chaz 11th, despite being on old-tyres.

Chaz set the benchmark early with a ripping lap, which no one could top. Bryce didn’t have a set of greens to use, so his lap was impressive against 14-others with new tyres.

It was happening everywhere, every lap.

Chaz struggled to get the car off the line, putting him back in fourth by turn 1, but that soon turned into second when Whincup and McLaughlin got together.

Bryce got away well, moving inside the top-10 before stopping on lap 6 for left hand side tyres.

Chaz stopped a lap later, which meant they had a long way home on the soft-compound tyres.

For the No. 25, it was hard work for the remainder of the afternoon, having to manage a tyre-life issue that put him down the order.

For Bryce, he lit up the timing boards mid-race as the fastest car on track, and started making his way forward.

With eight to go, the leading group were in sight. With four to go, he was in a six-way fight for the lead.

All six were not giving an inch in a fantastic race, as Bryce moved into fourth with three to go thanks to a move on Shane Van Gisbergen.

Despite crossing the line in fourth, a 15-second penalty to McLaughlin promoted him on to the podium, an incredible achievement in his first season.

“What a day, it still hasn’t sunk in yet to be honest. I can’t thank Walkinshaw Andretti United and Middy’s enough for believing in me, but also Mobil 1, and all of our other team partners for their support.

“Didn’t expect to be taking home a trophy in my first year of Supercars, but I’ll take it! To be racing with these guys up the front, mixing it with them and passing them is pretty surreal. It’s just so awesome to get my first podium, so a big thank you to everyone who has helped me get here.

“We had a fast car in qualifying but having to reuse tyres hurt us. I’m really happy with the progression of our team of late, everyone here and at home has been working incredibly hard and we are seeing gains which is awesome. We’ve come a long way with our race car.

“Bring on tomorrow."

“Awesome start to the day today with pole position. It was great to reward all the hard work that’s been happening at WAU, at the track and the workshop back home.

“We struggled in the race today with the rears, which made it a handful to drive, so we will look at that overnight and work out what exactly went wrong.

“Congratulations to Bryce on his first podium, so awesome to see in his rookie year.”
