Chaz Mostert has made it three out of four podium finishes around the streets of Townsville, with a third-place finish in Race 22 of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, while Bryce Fullwood finished 17th.

Tomorrow we go again for two more races here at Reid Park.

Qualifying

Chaz 5th, Bryce 11th

Chaz made it into the shootout once again, with a lap good enough for fifth on the grid.

Bryce missed out on the shootout by 0.04 seconds. While he was personally disappointed to come so close, he had a lot of experienced drivers behind him on the grid.

Race 22

Chaz 3rd, Bryce 17th

Both cars jumped off the line well, picking up spots in the opening laps.

Chaz was sitting fourth on the road for most of the first stint, opting to stop at the halfway point of the race. After his stop, the battle with Cam Waters resumed for the final spot on the podium. A few laps later, a power steering issue for Shane van Gisbergen meant they both picked up a spot.

From there, Chaz sat comfortably in third, but didn’t have the speed to challenge the top two, adding another piece of silverware to our Far North Queensland visit.

For Bryce, he was sitting comfortably in 10th for the first 20 laps, before reporting that something felt strange in the rear of the car. Within moments he fell back six spots, battling the car for the remainder of the race. The crew are currently hard at work understanding what happened.

Chaz Mostert

“Super pumped to get another trophy here in Townsville, and reward everyone associated with WAU for all of their hard work and support, especially over these last four weeks.

“We’ve still got a few things to work on overnight to tidy the car up, but today was good. We had a but of luck on our side, but it’s still a nice haul of points, as we keep chipping away at the year.

“We will look to qualify well in the two sessions tomorrow morning and then try and get a couple of more strong results in the races.”

Bryce Fullwood

“The day started off pretty well, it was a shame not to make the shootout but 11th was still a handy starting position.

“We got off to a nice start in the race and were trucking along pretty comfortably, but then I’m not quite sure what happened towards the middle there, we will put our heads together overnight to get a better understanding of it all.

“New day tomorrow, we will see how to we go in qualifying and look to finish the stretch up north on a high!”
