Chaz Mostert claimed his maiden Toyota victory today, after a dominant qualifying session this performance this morning, which also saw him secure pole position.

It was a strong start to the morning here in Tasmania with Chaz Mostert securing his maiden Toyota pole position for Race 14 in mixed weather conditions. Meanwhile, a mistake in the final corner on his fast lap saw Ryan Wood qualify in P8.

The second qualifying session saw the track dry out and the timesheets tighten even further. Unfortunately, Chaz narrowly missed progression through to the second session and would line up P13 for Race 15, whilst Ryan secured a second row start in P4.

Race 14

Chaz Mostert: P1
Ryan Wood: P14

Both drivers kept it clean in the opening laps, with Chaz reclaiming the lead on lap two, while Ryan made a move on the same lap to move into P7.

Keeping their heads down, both cars maintained position until the round of pitstops.

Chaz came into the lane with 28 laps remaining, and a great stop from the pit crew saw him rejoin the race while maintaining the lead, opening a two second gap to the field behind.

Unfortunately, during the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 pit stop, a cross-threaded wheel nut delayed the stop, which dropped Ryan down the order to P13.

The battle for P2 behind Chaz was intense, with the chasing pack fighting amongst themselves while Chaz enjoyed the clear air out front, allowing him to build a solid lead all the way to the checkered flag.

Meanwhile, Ryan cross the line in P14, a disappointing result given the speed the car had throughout the race.

Race 15

Chaz Mostert: P20
Ryan Wood: P8

Ryan made a strong launch off the line, maintaining position, while Chaz avoided damage in the mid-pack chaos and ultimately dropped two positions down to P15.

At the halfway mark, contact between Chaz and Jayden Ojeda resulted in a 15-second time penalty for Chaz. This forced a strategy change for Car 1, with Chaz called into the lane to serve the penalty, dropping him to the rear of the field.

Ryan came into the lane with 24 laps remaining, however the car stalled as it was dropped from the jacks, costing him at least five seconds and seeing him rejoin the race in P7.

Despite the setback, Chaz remained one of the fastest cars out on track, and continued pushing the Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 1 forward, working his way up to P20.

In a strong battle pack towards the end of the race, Ryan held his ground on the oldest tyres of the group, crossing the line in P8.

We return tomorrow for a 200km race tomorrow with big championship points on the line and with the incredibly tight timesheets, it’s shaping up to be another exciting day of racing.

Chaz Mostert

“It was awesome to get my first win with Toyota today alongside my fellow old mate, Dave, that must have been Supercar’s oldest podium this year, I’m proud to be a part of that statistic.

“In all seriousness, the team have done an awesome job developing the Toyota Supra’s, there is still plenty to learn but the strides they have taken forward to this point is nothing short of impressive.

“We started further back in the second race today than we would have liked and not the results we would have liked either. Good news is we get another go tomorrow.”

Ryan Wood

“Not really the day we were after here in Tassie, I made a few mistakes today which I’m a bit dirty with myself on.

“The good news is the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Supra is fast and we get another shot at it again tomorrow.

“Congrats to my mate Chaz on the pole and win today.”
